A weekend fire at Village East shopping center on Roswell Road damaged Bookmiser—an independent bookstore open for 27 years—and several other local shops while investigators believe a lithium battery sparked the blaze at a computer and cell phone repair business, with affected businesses now waiting for insurance decisions and cleanup.

Callanwolde Fine Arts Center plans to purchase a nearby church — the 28,500-square-foot building — to expand its campus and programs.

The nonprofit must raise $2 million by December to complete the project.
