- ➤ Multiple ceremonies and events are scheduled throughout metro Atlanta and North Georgia this week to honor the victims and heroes of 9/11. A memorial ceremony will be held at Roswell City Hall on Sept. 11 at 8:30 a.m.—with additional events featuring a memorial ride, candlelight vigil, and stair climb in nearby counties. FOX 5 Atlanta

- ➤ On Sept. 4, local leaders and professionals visited the new PBS Aerospace headquarters at 1350 Northmeadow Pkwy in Roswell—this $20 million facility makes small turbojet engines for drones and cruise missiles and will create over 100 jobs. A planned $90 million expansion will add a new plant to boost production for defense and civilian needs. Appen Media

- ➤ Convicted felon Jairus Ming Scraders was sentenced to 10 years in prison for torturing a dog—he was also found guilty on seven gun-related felony charges. FOX 5 Atlanta
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fulton County will offer advanced voting for the Senate District 21 Runoff Election from September 13 through September 19 at two sites—Alpharetta Library at 10 Park Plaza and Milton Library at 855 Mayfield Road. On Saturday the sites will operate from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from Monday to Friday they will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fulton County
- ➤ Pabel Troche, who served as interim chief since early 2025 with over two decades of experience, will serve as chief of the Roswell Fire Department—appointed by the city to lead its seven fire stations and safety training center. Appen Media
- ➤ Roswell officials began adopting a 2025 property tax rate of 4.949 mills with 4.049 for city services and .900 for debt repayment, meaning a typical $550,000 home will pay about $1,088 after exemptions, and public hearings will be held Sept 15 at 6 p.m. and Sept 22 at 7 p.m. In other business, the Council approved a 1.3-acre land exchange for a Hill Street mixed-use project and bonds up to $25 million to fund a new parking deck—while also naming September Childhood Cancer Awareness Month to honor Mighty Millie. - ➤ A federal advisory panel will meet next week to issue new COVID vaccine guidelines that may make it harder for residents to get a shot since a doctor must now write a prescription.
