  • Robert Aaron Long, 25 and accused in the 2021 spa shootings that killed eight people in metro Atlanta, appeared in a Fulton County courtroom for a week of hearings that began September 8 — he faces 19 charges including felony murder and domestic terrorism while District Attorney Fani Willis said she will seek the death penalty.  FOX 5 Atlanta

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Sept. 8, the City of Roswell held its first City Council meeting at City Hall—38 Hill St—to consider a 2025 property tax rate of 4.949 mills and to review a bond resolution for up to $25 million to finance the Hill Street Parking deck, which broke ground on Aug. 7.  Appen Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health experts say virus season is ahead — flu and COVID cases are expected to rise, and they advise Roswell residents to get vaccinated and follow preventive measures.  WSB-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Braves beat the Cubs by four to one on Monday night as Ozzie Albies and Matt Olson hit home runs while Bryce Elder pitched six and one third innings, and the Cubs lost their fourth game in five games. Tyler Kinley earned his 13th scoreless inning plus Olson hit his 23rd home run in the eighth inning to secure the win.  WSB-TV
  • Four top tennis players will compete later this year in Gwinnett County at Gas South Arena for the inaugural Atlanta Cup on Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. Aryna Sabalenka will face Naomi Osaka as Atlanta native Ben Shelton takes on Nick Kyrgios—tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.  WSB-TV
