  • Stacker has released a ranking of the top 50 countries from which immigrants to the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell metro area come—data drawn from the 2023 U.S. Census Bureau estimates. Mexico tops the list with 140,727 immigrants, and the ranking shows the range of origins for the area's diverse population.  WSB-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Former NFL cornerback Darryl ‘Buster’ Skrine was arrested in Roswell on 18 fraud charges after he scammed women on dating platforms by promising repayment from his NFL annuity—police say his scheme led to losses of about $300,000 and he is also wanted in Canada.  FOX 5 Atlanta

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fulton County's Department of Community Development is partnering with 21st Century Leaders to launch the CONNECTED: Youth Leadership Program, which gives high school students a year-long series of workshops, live training + online sessions to build leadership skills. Applications opened on August 25 and will be accepted until September 17, with orientation scheduled for September 25.  Fulton County

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgia DOT announced it will suspend lane closures on interstates during the busy Labor Day weekend—drivers will face fewer delays while some closures may remain for safety, with the change in effect from 12:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29 to 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2.  WSB-TV
