- ➤ On August 5, Oakwood officers worked with Roswell and Alpharetta police to arrest 50-year-old Frederick Lee Thornton—who posed as a federal agent—after he deceived a woman into withdrawing a large sum of money following an email from her bank about fraud. WSB-TV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Kennesaw State University’s economic impact in metro Atlanta increased to over $2.3 billion in fiscal year 2024—7.1% more than the previous year, supporting 16,621 jobs through spending by students and local businesses. The report shows that spending in education and community sectors drove a significant boost to the regional economy. WSB-TV
- ➤ A new report showed that wholesale prices jumped 0.9% in July and finance professor Tom Smith said rising tariffs on key exports such as aerospace, cars and poultry—major exports in Georgia—led to higher prices for consumers. Georgia Chamber of Commerce President Chris Clark said businesses must be smart with their purchases as extra costs may be passed on to shoppers. WSB-TV
