CRIME NEWS

  • Jury selection began in Fulton County for the trial of Alton Oliver + accused of fatally shooting Deputy James Thomas Jr. in a collision-related fight on Dec. 29, 2022, while details on the trial length remain unknown.  FOX 5 Atlanta
  • Authorities arrested two people in Roswell and seized $750K in drugs from an apartment—police said.  WSB-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Roswell city officials celebrated the groundbreaking for a $20 million, 395-stall downtown parking deck on August 7 & announced residents will enjoy free parking. The deck, located on the corner of Ga. 9 & Green Street and set to be completed on May 4, will ease long-standing parking issues downtown and support local businesses.  Appen Media
  • Roswell officials announced at the City Council meeting that former Councilman Marcelo Zapata, who stepped down due to poor health in June 2022, died on Aug 1 in Argentina, leaving a mark on the city's governance. The council also approved a federal grant plan to redevelop Pelfrey Pines Apartments at 199 Groveway into 102 affordable housing units— a project set to begin in the fall and complete by spring.  Appen Media
