COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Channel 2 will air 'The Giving Gap,' a 30-minute special that examines how North Georgian nonprofits are adapting to challenges in fundraising and meeting community needs. The program—featuring reporters Linda Stouffer and Fred Blankenship—will air Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. to encourage support for local organizations.  WSB-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 26, a Roswell couple moving out of rental assistance housing reported a burglary from their apartment on Myrtle Street that left over $6,500 in stolen items—including an iMac, PlayStation 5, Chromebook, perfumes, security cameras and jewelry—with an officer noting there was no door damage or forced entry.  Appen Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On July 28, the Roswell City Council approved a Stakeholder Committee for the Comprehensive Growth Plan 2045, made up of two council members, four community members, and one member each from the Roswell and Downtown Development Authorities—set to meet four to five times until the draft is complete by year’s end. The council also approved the first reading of the Roswell Development Finance Program, which will offer $4 million loans on new hotel projects valued at a minimum of $20 million—this plan will return to council on August 25 for further action.  Appen Media
  • On July 26, the Roswell Fire Department held a push-in ceremony to welcome two custom fire engines bought with a $1.5 million investment. The engines feature advanced technology and enhanced safety features — they took four years to arrive — and will now serve local fire stations.  Appen Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Cristina Pelaez Velez of Wellstar Health warned that students returning to school may face dangerous heat as children easily become dehydrated and should carry water bottles and seek shade — she advised parents and coaches to watch for signs of heat illness like fatigue and confusion.  WSB-TV
