EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fulton County Schools is starting the new school year with its free pep rally on July 26 from noon to 4 p.m. at Riverwood International Charter School and Georgia International Convention Center, offering student registration, meal details, bus schedules, health screenings and free school supplies — a set-up to help students and families begin strong.  Appen Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Roswell is installing new emergency vehicle preemption technology at 107 traffic signals to let GPS-equipped fire trucks, ambulances and police cars automatically trigger green lights. City officials said the system will reduce crashes and improve response times and will finish installation at city signals by August 6 with state signals done by the end of October—enhancing local public safety.  FOX 5 Atlanta
  • Over 61 cities, including Roswell, Sandy Springs, Tucker, Johns Creek and Dunwoody, signed a friend-of-the-court brief to support Milton in a $35 million wrongful death lawsuit stemming from the 2016 car accident that killed Josh Chang. The Georgia Supreme Court will review the case in late October (Chang v. City of Milton) to decide whether to overturn the $32.5 million jury verdict.  Appen Media
  • Contractors working for GDOT began overnight lane closures on July 21 for the Transform 285/400 project in Fulton County—detours will guide drivers and delays are expected until Saturday morning, July 26.  FOX 5 Atlanta
  • Fulton County Public Works will hold public hearings on a proposed 5% water and sewer rate increase to fund upgrades to the Capital Improvement Program and Camp Creek WRF on Monday, July 28 (5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) at the South Fulton County Service Center and on Tuesday, July 29 (5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) at the Fulton County Customer Service Center.
