- ➤ The Friends of Roswell Police will host the fifth annual Cops ‘N Cars Show at Lebanon Baptist Church on June 7 as a free event. Families and car enthusiasts can view classic & custom cars, police vehicles, and local vendor offerings while those entering a car with a $30 donation help support the Roswell Police foundation. - ➤ Roswell's Lavender Festival returns June 7 at Barrington Hall. The free, pet-friendly event offers over 60 arts and craft booths — food trucks, a bar, music and lavender — and runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free parking on site and along city streets. Appen Media
- ➤ The Chattahoochee Nature Center will host the Flying Colors Butterfly Festival on June 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on June 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.—tickets cost $25 while children 2 years old and younger are free. Appen Media
- ➤ Roswell Empowered is set to host its inaugural Pride Walk on June 21 at 10 a.m. at the Heart of Roswell Park at 925 Canton St.—Residents are invited to join while following local laws. Appen Media
- ➤ MUST Ministries is running its Summer Lunch Program to feed up to 8,000 students every week during summer break—an effort that began 30 years ago when teachers noted that some kids might go hungry. - ➤ Edward Espinoza, accused of killing officer Jeremy Labonte, appeared in Superior Court Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m.—he faces charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault on a peace officer—and is scheduled for a possible plea hearing. FOX 5 Atlanta
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On May 27, Roswell officials tentatively approved a plan to reduce traffic accidents and fatalities—requiring a Citywide Safety Action Plan and a Vision Zero resolution—and the City Council will vote on it June 9. If approved, the plan will let the city apply for federal and state grants to fund safety improvements on local roads. Appen Media
- ➤ On May 27, the City Council unanimously approved code changes that give City Administrator Randy Knighton more power over hiring and managing city workers. The council also voted to start rules for short-term rentals that require registration and inspections — rules that will take effect January 1 if approved on June 9 — and the Environmental/Public Works Department earned awards for its water treatment. - ➤ Fulton County Commission Chair Robb Pitts said he was disinvited from a White House meeting by email on Sunday after he traveled to Washington—costing taxpayers nearly $2,000.
