GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Georgia Department of Community Affairs announced it awarded nearly $14 million from HUD funding to 15 communities, with metro Atlanta receiving about $6.5 million for affordable housing projects. Seven communities will each receive $1.5 million for building single-family homes and eight will get $500,000 for rehabilitating owner-occupied homes — an additional $14 million in matching funds will boost homeownership statewide. Mike Collins and six GOP lawmakers urged the U.S. Attorney General to create a task force to target staged crash scams that aim to defraud insurance companies, noting 63 U-Haul-related investigations in Georgia since 2014 — and they expect federal measures to strengthen soon. - ➤ Publix has voluntarily recalled its GreenWise Pear, Kiwi, Spinach and Pea Baby Food sold in 4-ounce pouches because of possible high lead levels.
