Good morning, Roswell. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 10th of April.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Roswell firefighter rescued a snapping turtle from busy Crabapple Road on April 9th at 8:22 a.m. while checking fire hydrants; the rescue was part of a rare procedure called Code T.U.R.T.L.E. that may give the turtle a new home as the department’s unofficial pet.  FOX 5 Atlanta

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Used auto sale brokers say a bill waiting for the governor’s signature will require them to use a 250 square foot office—much larger than current requirements—which may force many to spend more on office costs. The bill on the governor’s desk, set for a decision by May 14, could hurt small brokers and favor larger dealerships.  WSB-TV

  • Roswell Police are investigating a car break-in and credit card fraud after a 23-year-old Atlanta man reported that someone broke into his vehicle on April 1 near Vickery Creek Trail, smashed his window, and stole his iPhone, wallet, and cards—one charge of $500 at Kroger went through before another for $650 was declined.  Appen Media
  • Roswell Police responded at 4:30 p.m. on April 2 to shots fired near Terramont Court and located two abandoned vehicles—a gray Ford F-150 and a dark Honda Accord—after a homeowner said he saw a truck crash into a yard and a man shoot another, while investigators review video footage to pursue fleeing suspects.  Appen Media
  • Roswell Police transported a 32-year-old Atlanta woman from Cobb County to Fulton County Jail on March 31 after a January shoplifting incident off Woodstock Road (involving more than $700 in merchandise) and she was bonded out on April 2 (with a $2,000 bond).  Appen Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Brood XIV cicadas, which follow a 17-year cycle, are set to emerge in parts of Georgia when the soil reaches 64 degrees—northern areas may see them as early as the third week of April, and they will mate, lay eggs and then die by June.
