- ➤ Metro Atlanta dropped to the 8th largest metro area after adding 75,000 people from 2023 to 2024—this update now places it behind Miami and Washington, D.C. Growth trends in Georgia counties may lead to further shifts in the metro ranking. FOX 5 Atlanta
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Brian Kemp has asked for ICE training for 1,100 state troopers, Capitol police and Motor Carrier officers to help guide them when handling criminals here who are in the country illegally. Commissioner Billy Hitchens said the training will serve as an extra tool for public safety—officials stressed it will not transform them into ICE agents. WSB-TV
- ➤ Roswell City Council approved the design phase for the Public Safety Headquarters remodel with Reeves & Young using a $5.7 million construction management at risk plan and some Fire and Police staff will move in in April while work on two floors is set to finish by the end of 2025 — this remodel is a cost-effective alternative to a new $54 million building. The council also approved a $53,010 insurance reimbursement for hurricane damage repairs at Garrard Landing Park — work on the repairs is progressing under a new budget amendment. Appen Media
- ➤ Georgia lawmakers are considering bills that would ban THC-infused drinks and limit THC in gummies to 0.3 percent before the session ends April 4. Joe Salome, a metro hemp store owner, said the proposed rules will hurt his business growth—he asked officials to avoid extreme regulations. WSB-TV
