About this event

Throughout history and across cultures, people have found meaningful ways to remember and honor those who have passed away. Many examples of these traditions can be found in the galleries of the Carlos Museum, such as the Colima Dog (Xoloitzcuintli), believed by the ancient Mesoamerican cultures in Mexico to guide the deceased safely through the underworld, to the Egyptian Letter to the Dead , written by Merirtyfy to her late husband Nebetiotef. Contemporary artist, Sergio Suárez, also explores memory, remembrance, and connections across time through his prints, ceramics and sculptures.

Join us for a special Día de los Muertos Sunday FUNday as we celebrate, remember and honor a person, pet, place, or cherished memory through making, reflection and community.

Honor a loved one by decorating a traditional cast sugar skull. Inspired by the rich heritage of Día de los Muertos, this hands-on artmaking offers a meaningful way to celebrate and remember cherished memories.

Sunday FUNday is a free drop-in program for all families and includes admission to galleries. First come, first served, while supplies last.
